PIEGA
Exploring Structure Through the Art of Folding
Inspired by the Italian word Piega—meaning fold or crease—this collection investigates how a single folded surface can transition from a flat sheet into a structural object. The project explores the relationship between geometry, balance and material efficiency, transforming industrial sheet metal into elegant furniture with minimal visual weight.
THE BRIEF
Design a contemporary furniture collection using folded sheet metal as the primary structural element while maintaining premium aesthetics and manufacturing simplicity. The challenge was to reduce components without compromising stability, proportion or usability
DESIGN APPROACH
Rather than concealing the construction, every bend becomes a structural expression. Fold lines replace bulky joints, allowing each product to achieve strength through geometry instead of mass. The resulting forms are clean, sculptural and intentionally restrained, celebrating precision manufacturing and timeless proportions
DESIGN PRINCIPLES
-
Fold as Structure
-
Material Efficiency
-
Visual Lightness
-
Geometric Balance
-
Premium Material Pairing
-
Manufacturing Simplicity
MATERIAL PALETTE
The contrast between warm natural stone and precision-formed steel defines the identity of Piega. Rich marble surfaces rest delicately on folded steel structures, balancing craftsmanship with industrial manufacturing while creating a refined contemporary aesthetic
COLLECTION
The language extends consistently across multiple furniture typologies while adapting the folded structural logic to different functional requirements.

DESIGN OUTCOME
Piega demonstrates how a simple fold can become the defining architectural element of an entire furniture collection. By combining precision sheet metal fabrication with premium natural materials, the project creates products that are visually light, structurally efficient and manufactured with minimal complexity
